Depending on vessel speed, draft, air draft, fuel range, weather, sea conditions, tides and the owner’s destination, a delivery may use the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), offshore ocean passages, protected bays and sounds, or a combination of all three. Faster boats may take advantage of favorable offshore weather windows, while slower or more weather-sensitive vessels may benefit from protected sections of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). Route decisions are reviewed throughout the delivery as conditions change.
Long-distance East Coast deliveries may involve New York Harbor, the Hudson River, the New Jersey coast, Cape May, Delaware Bay, Delaware River, Chesapeake & Delaware Canal (C&D), Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Great Bridge, Coinjock, the sounds (Albemarle and Pamlico) and rivers of North Carolina, the Carolinas and Georgia ICW, Florida waterways and offshore Atlantic passages around Frying Pan Shoals, Cape Hatteras and Diamond Shoals.
